America the Beautiful Silver Coins have been in production at the United States Mint since 2010. The coin series consists of five new designs each year, representing a different national park, national forest, or historic monument from each of the 50 US states, the federal district, or one of the nation’s five overseas territories.
The 2015 5 oz Colorized ATB Kisatchie Silver Coin represents the state of Louisiana, and the Kisatchie National Forest. Covering 604,000 acres of land across northern and central Louisiana, the region is home to large stretches of longleaf pine forest and some of the oldest rock formations in the state.
Each of the unique coins in this product listing features natural colorization on the reverse image. The waterfowl and background images on the coin have been colorized to represent the real-world appearance of the habitat and creatures within Kisatchie National Forest. The outer rim of the coin remains silver in appearance, with no changes to the engravings identifying the year of minting, state of issue, and representative park.
On the obverse, the image of President George Washington remains unchanged. His left-profile portrait, crafted in 1932 by John Flanagan, remains monotone in .999 pure silver. Engravings include “United States of America,” “Liberty,” “In God We Trust,” and the coin’s face value.
All ATB Silver Coins are struck by the United States Mint, but the Mint does not colorize any of these products. The colorization added to these coins was completed by Emporium Hamburg, a German company with 40 years of experience as a coin trading house.
