The US Mint is known for producing a wide array of attractive, valuable coins, but never before has the mint produced a coin series anything like this. Celebrating the momentous occasions and historical national landmarks that make up our country, the America the Beautiful coin series perfectly encapsulates everything that Americans hold near and dear to their hearts.
To talk about the origins of the United States’ National Park system, you have to go back to the late 1800s when people began more readily moving westward. As settlements, towns, and cities began popping up all over this vast country, President Theodore Roosevelt decided that it is only right we protect some of the natural beauty of the land. Through that belief was born the National Park system we still know and love today.
Hot Springs National Park is located in Arkansas and is best-known for the hot spring water that flows from the earth at temperatures of well over 125 degrees Fahrenheit. Said to be rain that fell many thousands of years ago, the hot springs’ water is just as pure as it is intriguing. The 5 oz ATB Hot Springs coin sports the image of the National Park’s ornate headquarters door as well as a fountain with water shooting up from it. The fountain and water represent the many springs that make up the national park. Inscribed on the coin’s reverse are the words “Hot Springs”, “Arkansas”, and “E Pluribus Unum.” The 2010 year of minting is also located towards the bottom of the reverse side, in the center.
On the coin’s obverse you will find a set up that is identical to what you will find on the obverse of a US quarter-dollar. Complete with inscriptions reading “In God We Trust”, “Liberty”, and “United States of America”, this coin really does very closely resemble a quarter. The one exception to this is the fact that the 5 oz Hot Springs coin is much thicker than your average quarter.
