Westward expansion was key to the growth and success of America during the 19th century. If the US had not expanded westward and encouraged its citizens to settle the West, the country may never have realized its Manifest Destiny and failed to create a nation that stretches from “sea to shining sea.” The 2015 5 oz ATB Homestead Silver Coin honors the start of western expansion, and JM Bullion now has these coins with an MS69 DPL grade and Early Release designation from the NGC.
Coin Highlights:
- Contains 5 oz of 99.9% pure silver.
- Minted at the United States Mint.
- Given a near-perfect grade by the NGC.
- Part of the EArly Release series.
- Features a design of Homestead National Park in Nebraska.
- Part of the America the Beautiful coin series.
The America the Beautiful coin series celebrates historic moments, iconic places, and impactful citizens from American history. The Homestead Act of 1863, presented by President Abraham Lincoln, encouraged men and women to move west by allowing them to stake a claim to land in the region. Homestead National Park, established following President Theodore Roosevelt’s formation of the National Park Service, marks the first homestead claimed by Americans moving west after passage of the act.
When the NGC gives an ATB coin an MS69 grade, it identifies the coin as one with a sharp, attractive, nearly perfect strike and with few to no blemishes. These 2015 5 oz ATB Homestead Silver coins were selected from the Early Release series, indicating they arrived from the mint within the first 30 days of minting for the series in 2015.
On the obverse of each coin is a depiction of the essentials needed to settle the West: food, water, and shelter. A stylized log cabin is featured in the center, with a water pump in the foreground. The image is encircled by two corn stalks. This side bears engravings of “Nebraska,” “Homestead,” “E Pluribus Unum,” and “2015.”
The reverse displays a reproduction of the back of US quarters. A left-profile portrait of President George Washington sits in the middle, with traditional engravings from circulation quarters included around his image.
The United States Mint strikes all of the coins in the America the Beautiful coin series. The 2015 5 oz ATB Homestead Silver Coin is the 26th in the series, which will total 50 coins when it is complete. The program is designed to celebrate and call attention to at least one national park from each US state.
