North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Parkway is the most unique National Park in the United States. The road is labeled as an All-American Road and stretches across 29 different counties in North Carolina and neighboring Virginia. At 469 miles in length, it is the longest linear park in the United States National Park System.
America the Beautiful is a 56-coin series featuring different national parks, national forests, and historical monuments from across the country. Each year the United States Mint releases five new designs representing a new group of states, territories, or districts. Introduced in 2010, the program is scheduled to run through 2021.
Each 2015 5 oz ATB Blue Ridge Parkway coin in this product listing is a unique coin featuring a colorized finish on the reverse design set. Rather than the standard silver finish, each coin has brilliant, natural colors added to help bring to life the scenic beauty of the parkway.
The image on the obverse side of the coin, that of President George Washington, has not been altered from the standard design of the original ATB coins. This image was created in 1932 by John Flanagan, and based upon an original bust of Washington completed in 1786 by William Cousins.
The United States Mint produced each of these coins originally, but the Emporium Hamburg in Germany completed the colorization process. The US Mint does not colorize or add plating to any of its precious metal products.
