A crucial transit point for migrating wildlife in the spring and fall, Bombay Hook’s 16,000 acres provide food and shelter for hundreds of thousands of ducks, geese, shorebirds and neo-tropical songbirds each year. First established as a national site in 1937, it was an obvious candidate for the list of national landmarks to be celebrated by the U.S. Mint’s American the Beautiful series.
The 2015 ATB Bombay Hook Silver Coin coin is available in near-perfect condition, showcasing full, original-mint luster with no more than two detracting flaws. Certified as a First Strike coin, it’s shipped in an individual protective plastic slab.
A profile portrait of George Washington graces the coin’s obverse side. This is the traditional profile portrait that American circulation coins have borne for decades, first designed in 1932 to celebrate the first American President’s two hundredth birthday. It also carries the inscriptions “United States of America,” “In God We Trust,” “Liberty,” and “Quarter Dollar.”
On the reverse is a detailed portrait image of a view of Bombay Hook that features a great blue heron in the foreground and an egret in the background. The graceful artwork comes from award-winning sculptor and medallic artist Phebe Hemphill. It’s accompanied by the inscriptions “Bombay Hook,” “Delaware,” “2015” and “E Pluribus Unum.”
