Coins in Brilliant Uncirculated condition feature no signs of wear and tear, though you may notice breaks in the luster, spotted surfaces, or contact marks from striking.
On the reverse side of the coin is the annual Hawksbill turtle design. The native sea creature is featured swimming amongst the warm waters of the South Pacific, with the design field featuring a frosted finish that brings the foamy look of the ocean to life. A small sliver on the coin’s left bears a mirror-like finish and includes the engraving “Turtle.”
The obverse side of the coin features Ian Rank-Broadley’s 1998 right-profile portrait of England’s Queen Elizabeth II. Her effigy is surrounded by engravings of her name, the nation of issue, the coin’s face value, and the year of issue.
The New Zealand Mint is a privately-owned minting facility operating in Auckland.
