The Rwandan Wildlife Series was introduced in 2008 by the government of Rwanda, in coordination with the BH Mayer Mint of Germany. The silver program was designed to introduce a new coin each year featuring the image of a different species from the African continent.
Rwandan Wildlife Series coins debuted that year with the Gorilla design. Its extremely low mintage of just 5,000 coins that first year makes the Rwandan African Gorilla the most coveted coin in the series to date. Mintage has increased with time, but even the 2015 Rwandan African Buffalo has a low mintage that generates intense demand.
All 2015 1 oz Rwandan African Buffalo Silver coins in this product listing have a Mint State 70 grade from the NGC. Considered a perfect coin, you’ll find the full, original mint luster still present on this coin, and no detracting flaws anywhere on the coin’s surface.
The obverse bears the image of a Cape Buffalo adult with its young calf. This design is set in the lower-left field of the coin, with the shared background prominent in the center of the coin. An outline of the African continent is featured on the obverse of all coins in the series, and it includes the geological formations of the continent such as its rugged, mountainous interior and the Nile River.
On the reverse is the national crest of the country, along with the name of the Central Bank of Rwanda and the coin’s face value. All engravings are written in the local Kinyarwanda tribal tongue.
