The second release in the Native American Mint’s proof silver coin series honoring tribal nations from across North America arrived in the form of the 2015 1 oz Proof New Mexico Navajo Cougar Silver Coin. Each brilliant coin in the series honors a tribal nation on the obverse and a native species from the region that was important to the tribe in one way or another. Today, the 2015 1 oz Proof New Mexico Navajo Cougar Silver Coin is available from JM Bullion.

The Navajo Nation is the second largest of the federally recognized tribes in the United States. There are more than 300,000 members registered in the tribe as of 2015. Navajo Nation is considered an independent governmental body that manages the Navajo reservation located within the Four Corners area of New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, and Nevada.
Although this coin represents the Navajo people of New Mexico, the state actually has the second largest resident population within the Navajo nation at 108,306. Neighboring Arizona has the largest population at 140,263.
On the obverse face of each coin you’ll find the image of a lone Navajo tribal member, wearing traditional headdress and a cloth wrap to keep the dusty desert winds from blowing dirt into their face.
The reverse side of the coin features the image of one of the deadliest killers in North America. The cougar is well known as a silent killer, stalking its prey and striking before the victim even knows the cougar is there.
All 2015 1 oz Proof New Mexico Navajo Cougar Silver coins from the Native American Mint have a satin finish. Difficult to accurately describe, a satin finish is best known by the presences of a mirror-like finish rather than a matte finish.
