The reverse design of these coins was designed by John Mercanti, the 12th Chief Engraver of the US Mint. This made history as Mercanti became the first US Mint engraver to create a design for a foreign mint. Mercanti joined the US Mint in 1974. He became the Chief Engraver in 2006 and ultimately retired just four years later.
