These 2015 1 oz Congo Silver Silverback Gorilla coins are the first in a new annual series of silver bullion coins. The coins are a product of the partnership between the government of the Republic of Congo and the private Scottsdale Mint company of the United States.
Each of the 2015 Congo Silver Silverback Gorilla coins in this product listing is a proof-like bullion coin. This means that the coins are struck as bullion products, but that the visual features of the coin have a proof-like appearance, such as matte finishes and/or mirrored background fields.
The obverse face of the coin features the imposing image of a male silverback gorilla letting out a thunderous roar. Engravings on this side include “Congo Silverback Gorilla” above the design and “2015 1 oz 999 Silver” below the design.
On the reverse face of the coin is the official coat of arms for the Republic of Congo. A former French colony, the nation’s seal features engravings in French that include “Republique du Congo” above the crest and the official motto of “Unite – Travail – Progress” within a banner at the bottom of the crest.
The Scottsdale Mint is a private facility located in the US state of Arizona. Also known as Scottsdale Silver, the mint strives for green minting processes by recovering much of the silver it uses in bullion production from the photography and manufacturing industries, refining that silver into .999 or greater pure silver.
