Canadian Silver Maple Leaf coins were first introduced in 1988 as a counterpart to the nation’s Canadian Gold Maple Leaf series, which was launched in 1979 to fill the void left in the global market following the boycott of South African Gold Krugerrands.
Canadian Maple Leaf coins, regadless of precious metal content, share the same design features on both the reverse and obverse sides of the coin. Starting in 2015, the Royal Canadian Mint added new security features to its popular bullion coins. Radial lines were micro-laser engraved on both sides, and a small maple leaf privy with the year of issue engraved in the middle was added to the reverse. This is only visible under intense magnification however, making it an excellent form of deterrence for counterfeiters.
Each 2015 1 oz Canadian Silver Maple Leaf in this product listing is in perfect condition according to the NGC. MS70 coins feature their full, original mint luster and no detracting flaws of any kind.
On the reverse of each coin is the maple leaf design in the middle, with radial lines and the maple leaf security mark also visible. The nation of issue, weight, metal content, and purity of the coin are engraved on this side.
The obverse features the right-profile portrait of England’s Queen Elizabeth II, as designed in 2003 by Susanna Blunt. Engravings on this side are simple and read only Her Majesty’s name and the face value of the coin.
