Following the tremendous success of the Canadian Wildlife Series of silver bullion coins, the Royal Canadian Mint unveiled the Birds of Prey Series. This series of silver coins again focused on the natural species of Canada, and each was well received by numismatists. Right now, the 2015 1 oz Canadian Silver Great Horned Owl coin is available from JM Bullion in near-perfect condition.
Coin Highlights:
The Birds of Prey Series from the Royal Canadian Mint was the second consecutive commemorative bullion program to feature images of wild creatures from the Canadian wilderness. The success of the Canadian Wildlife Series from 2011 to 2013 led to the creation of a new series featuring aerial predators from Canada.
While the coins in the Canadian Wildlife Series had mintages of roughly 50,000 each, the RCM boosted production for Birds of Prey coins to a maximum of 1 million per each design. Emily Damstra, who created the final two designs in the six-coin Wildlife Series, created all four coins in this set.
Each 2015 1 oz Canadian Silver Great Horned Owl coin in this product listing is in near-perfect condition according to the NGC. An MS69 coin has its full, original luster and no more than two minor detracting flaws.
On the reverse side you’ll find Damstra’s depiction of the Great Horned Owl. Her image features the bird as it swoops down, wings outstretched, to captures its prey in its powerful claws. The design also includes engravings of the nation of issue, purity, metal content, and weight of the coin, as well as an “ED” mark for the designer.
The obverse bears Susanna Blunt’s 2003 depiction of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty’s image is featured along with engravings of “Elizabeth II” and “5 dollars.”
