American Gold Eagles debuted in 1986. The series launched with 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz gold coins in the BU Series. That same year saw the debut of the Proof Series, but with only a 1 oz gold coin available for collectors. By 1988, the three fractional-ounce weights were also available in proof.
In 2006, the United States Mint marked the 20th anniversary of the Gold Eagle Series with the introduction of the Burnished Series. The coins were available from 2006 to 2008 in 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz gold, but following a hiatus in 2009-2010, the series returned in 2011 with only the 1 oz coin.
On the obverse of 2015-W 1 oz Burnished Gold Eagle Coins, you’ll find a historic effigy of Lady Liberty. Designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1907, it captures a vision of Liberty in front-facing relief with a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. The background includes the U.S. Capitol Building, rays of sunshine, and a ring of stars.
The reverse side of the 2015-W Burnished American Gold Eagle comes with a design from Miley Busiek. Created in 1986 exclusively for the Gold Eagle Series, this image shows a male eagle soaring over a large nest with a female and hatchling inside the nest.
These 2015-W 1 oz Burnished American Gold Eagle Coins come with plastic capsules and are packaged in presentation boxes. The coins also come with a Certificate of Authenticity. Burnished Gold Eagles are struck on specialized blanks that the US Mint burnishes in tumblers before loading them into the coin press.
