The 2015 1^1/4 oz Canadian Silver Bison Coin is available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and is also being offered in its original mint sealed tubes of 20 coins or monster boxes of 400 coins. The obverse of each coin features Susana Blunt’s right-facing portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Above the queen, her name is stamped as “Elizabeth II.” Below the queen, the coin’s face value of “8 Dollars” is displayed. The background of the coin is complemented by repeating radial lines which give the coin a gray appearance.

On the reverse of the coin, a lone North American Bison is shown front and center. The large animal appears to be galloping through an open plain with a tall ridge off in the distance. The coin’s silver purity of “9999” is stamped below the animal. Above the Bison, the country’s name and minting year are listed which reads: “Canada 2015.” Circling the bottom of the coin is the weight and the fineness which is listed in both English and French. This information reads: “Fine Silver 1 1/4 OZ Argent Pur.”

Superior Bison Coin Quality

As a result of an extreme emphasis on product quality for this new coin, the Bison is one of the highest quality Canadian silver bullion coins ever produced. As an example of this improved quality, the first 800 Bison coins (two randomly selected, sealed mint boxes) submitted to NGC for grading returned an astounding 500+ perfect MS70 coins, and only 2 coins MS68 or lower.

This level of grading is far superior to the normal Silver Maple Leaf, which typically grades as MS67-MS68 and rarely grades MS69 or above. As a result of the improved production quality, the 1^1/4 oz Bison should also prove more resistant to the common “milk spotting” often seen over time on other Canadian silver coins.
