Each new year the Perth Mint release a different design for the Lunar Series II coin program. These designs commemorate the specific animal on the Zodiac in that year, and follows the 12-year cycle of the Chinese Lunar calendar.
The Year of the Goat covers those born in 2015 and every 12th year going forward in the future, and retrospectively backward in time. Those born under a given creature are said to share characteristics with that animal, with Year of the Goat individuals believed to be calm, elegant, charming, and gifted.
On the reverse of these 2015 1/2 oz Proof Colorized Australian Silver Baby Goat coins is the image of a sparkling baby goat as it stands with two front legs upon a bag of holiday gifts. The bag itself features the colorized additions to the design.
The obverse of each Proof Colorized Australian Silver Baby Goat Coin features Ian Rank-Broadley’s right-profile portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This image was created in 1998 and has been in use on British and Australian-issued coinage since then as a fourth-generation depiction of the Queen.
Each 2015 1/2 oz Proof Colorized Australian Silver Baby Goat Coin arrives in a black Perth Mint display box, with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity and shipper featuring full-color Year of the Goat, baby goat artwork.
Perth Mint is the oldest operating facility in Australia. Opened in 1899, it has outlived the Sydney and Melbourne Mint locations of former British Royal Mint system in Australia. Today it is independent of the Royal Australian Mint and owned by the state government of Western Australia.
