Originally released in 1986, the US Mint is pleased to present this exquisite collection of ER (Early Release) edition 2015 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle coins. As with other gold eagles of this denomination, each piece has been skillfully crafted from 1/2 Troy oz of .9167 fine (22 karat) gold and carries a legally tender face value of $25 USD. However, as an Early Release edition piece, it possesses sharper images than its standard counterparts due to the freshness of the coin molds at the beginning of its mintage period.
All gold eagle coins featured in this collection have also undergone a thorough examination by the NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Corporation) and received a certified grade of MS (Mint State) 70 as verification of their flawless condition. To hinder any potential damage during handling and transport, every coin will ship in its original sealed examination slab.
Gracing the front of this coin is Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ classical rendition of Lady Liberty. This elegant portrayal depicts the iconic figure a long, flowing toga as she stands at the top of a mountain peak, overlooking the Capitol Building. Illuminating the space behind her are rays of sunlight. She holds in her hands a torch and an olive branch. These items reflect the US’s ideals of enlightenment and peace, respectively. Serving as final touch to Saint-Gaudens’ magnificent artwork is a circular border comprised of stars with each one in honor of a US state.
The reverse side of the coin depicts a male bald eagle, returning to its nest with an olive branch clasped between its talons. Inside the nest, awaiting its arrival, are the female with its young eaglet. This charming portrait represents not only the unity of this country and also how that unity is dependent upon its ability to maintain a sense of peace. Further emphasizing this message are the inscriptions of “E Pluribus Unum” and “In God We Trust,” which appear on opposite sides of the eagle trio. Also engraved unto the reverse side of the coin are its purity, weight, denomination and country of issue.
