Australia’s Perth Mint produces some of the most in-demand coins and precious metal bars in the world. Without question, its most popular design is the annual Australian Koala coin. One of the nation’s most beloved native species, the koala has appeared on Perth Mint coins for almost a decade now. In this unique listing, a 2015 ½ Gram Australian Mini Koala Gold Coin is available courtesy of JM Bullion.

The Australian Koala coin is struck on an annual basis by the Perth Mint in both gold and silver. First introduced in 2007, the coin is often produced in weights as high as 1 Kilogram, and as low as 1/10 oz. This unique ½ Gram Australian Mini Koala Gold Coin is part of a unique new addition to the series that features a different take on the yearly design of the coin.
Each year the design on the Australian Koala coin changes. While the motif of a koala is consistent, the specific design changes from year to year, giving the coin series increased value among collectors looking to capture each of the new designs released.
On the reverse side of the coin is the image of a koala. Unlike the standard 2015 coins that feature the koala in a tree with the Outback visible in the background, this coin shows only an adult koala in a seated position. The engravings are equally simplistic in nature, with the “P” mint mark on the right and the coin’s weight, purity, and metal content below.
The obverse side of the 2015 ½ Gram Australian Mini Koala Gold Coin features all of the standard imagery and engravings of other Australian Koala coins. Queen Elizabeth II’s right-profile portrait is surrounded by engravings that read “Elizabeth II,” “Australia 2015,” and “2 Dollars.”
The Perth Mint is Australia’s oldest operating facility. Although it is not affiliated with the Royal Australian Mint, under the Currency Act of 1965, all of its coins are considered legal tender within Australia.
