After declining mintage figures in 2014, the American Gold Eagle quickly shot back upward in 2015 and 2016. In fact, the 2015-2016 cycle of issues in the Gold Eagle Series was punctuated with differentiating growth across the four coins in the collection. Coin Highlights:
The 2010-2019 production cycle for American Gold Eagles was dramatically impacted by an ever-changing global landscape, both economically and politically speaking. The 2015-2016 cycle marked a spike point in the decade with demand surging, particularly for the 1/10 oz and 1 oz Gold Eagles.
However, this spike was experienced in different years. The 2015 1/10 oz Gold Eagle was the highest minted coin among the four that year, with the 1 oz Gold Eagle more than 300,000 coins behind this weight. The next year, the 1/10 oz Gold Eagle was again the highest minted, but its mintage fell slightly from 2015 while the 1 oz gold coin surged in 2016 to close the gap.
Lady Liberty is on the obverse of 2015 1/10 oz Gold Eagle Coins. This image shows Liberty in front-facing relief with a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. Augustus Saint-Gaudens created this image in 1907 for the $20 Gold Double Eagle.
American bald eagles are featured in the reverse design of 2015 American Gold Eagles. This design was created in 1986 by Miley Busiek and shows a male eagle soaring over the nest as a female eagle guards hatchlings in the nest.
These 2015 1/10 oz American Gold Eagle Coins are packaged in plastic flips for delivery. The 2015 mintage for these 1/10 oz Gold Eagles was the highest for this weight since 1999 and remains the third-highest mintage of 1/10 oz Gold Eagles in the program’s history.
