Major League Baseball has produced a number of heroes for young boys and girls across America. The United States Mint’s Baseball Hall of Fame Silver Coin series highlights some of the game’s best by including them on special labels sold with each coin in the program. Today, you can purchase a 2014 $1 Baseball Hall of Fame Silver Coin from JM Bullion with a Ryne Sandberg signature label included.
Coin Highlights
Sandberg was one of the game’s most reliable second basemen. He played a total of 16 seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies and Chicago Cubs, collecting nine consecutive Gold Glove awards and making the All-Star team in 10 consecutive seasons. His .989 fielding percentage is the highest ever by a second baseman.
These 2014 $1 Baseball Hall of Fame Silver coins received an MS70 grade from the Professional Coin Grading Service. MS70, or Mint State 70, indicates a coin that is considered perfectly struck. The plastic packaging each coin ships in comes with a Ryne Sandberg label that includes his player photo, name, and reproduced autograph. The “P” mint mark on the coins identifies them as products of the Philadelphia Mint.
Each coin features a baseball glove on the obverse side, with the engravings “Liberty,” “In God We Trust,” and “2014.” The reverse side features the first-ever 3D design on a US Mint coin. The image of a baseball on this side is accompanied by the engravings “United States of America” and “E Pluribus Unum.”
The US Mint held an open contest in 2013 among designers and artists to generate concepts for the design of the Baseball Hall of Fame coins. Cassie McFarland’s design was selected for the series on September 4, 2013.
