There are a lot of players that are referred to as great or amazing in Major League Baseball, but few have the accolades and attention that Ernie Banks enjoyed when he career came to an end in 1971. The United States Mint honors Major League Baseball’s place in American sports and culture with the Baseball Hall of Fame coin. Today, you can purchase a 2014 $1 Baseball Hall of Fame Silver coin from JM Bullion with a special Ernie Banks signature label.
Coin Highlights:
Banks was nicknamed “Mr. Cub” after playing all 19 of his MLB season with the Chicago Cubs. Banks’ career began with the Kansas City Monarchs of the negro league, and the early days of his career were interrupted by two years of military service in the United States Army during the Korean War. Banks won back-to-back NL MVP awards in 1958 and 1959, finishing his career with 2,583 hits and 512 homeruns.
These 2014 $1 Baseball Hall of Fame coins have an MS70 grade from the Professional Coin Grading Service, signifying each coin was perfectly struck at the mint. The “P” mint mark identifies each coin as a product of the Philadelphia Mint. The Ernie Banks label sealed inside the packaging of these coins includes his player photo, name, and reproduced signature.
On the reverse side of each coin is the 3D image of a baseball, along with the engravings “United States of America” and “E Pluribus Unum.” The obverse features an open baseball glove, with engravings of “Liberty,” “In God We Trust,” and “2014.” The 3D image on this coin is the first of its kind on any bullion coin product from the US Mint.
