The 2014 Canadian Tiktaalik Glow in the Dark Coin has been minted by the Royal Canadian Mint as part of their “Prehistoric Creatures” coin series. Each coin is struck in 12.61 grams of cupronickel and has been assigned a legal tender value of 25¢ in Canada. The coin features a colored design which uses photo-luminescent elements to enable the coin to glow in the dark. These coins will ship in their original RCM packaging which includes a clamshell display box with a serialized COA.
This addition to the Canadian Prehistoric Creatures Series showcases a Tiktaalik, which lived about 375 million years ago. This creature may have had rudimentary lungs but also gills like a fish. Researchers believe that the Tiktaalik could push itself from shallow water onto land where it could traverse short distances. The Royal Canadian Mint has produced a design based on the fossilized remains of a Tiktaalik uncovered in Nunavut. Canadian artist Julius Csotonyi created the eye-catching image that appears on the coin. After leaving the coin in sunlight for about a minute, transfer the coin to the dark where you will see the photo-luminescent image of the Tiktaalik’s skeleton!
With this new addition to the popular series, it’s easy to see why the Royal Canadian Mint continues to be revered for its high-quality products around the world. JM Bullion will ship these coins in brand new condition. Because they are obtained directly from the Royal Canadian Mint, you can be assured of their described condition and authenticity.
