This set of Philharmonic coins comes with a one-quarter ounce coin and a one-ounce coin. The coins are named for the Vienna Philharmonic orchestra (Wiener Philharmoniker), which inspires the design of both sides of the coins. The Philharmonic coin was designed by Thomas Pesendorfer for the first release of the coin in 1989. The Obverse side of the coin features the famous Musikverein Pipe Organ. Above the organ are the embossed words WIENER PHILHARMONIKER.
The reverse side of the coin features elegantly rendered orchestral instruments. Above the instruments, the words REPUBLIK OSTERREICH are embossed. Below the instruments are the embossed words 1 UNZE GOLD 999.9, 2014, and the denomination of 100 Euros. The one-quarter ounce coin follows suit.
