For those unfamiliar with the jurisdictions of Canada, there are 10 provinces and 3 territories across the northern span of the North American continent. Beginning in 2001, the Royal Canadian Mint released a series of gold coins celebrating the official seal of each territory or province, known as the Provincial Coat of Arms Series.
Saskatchewan’s coat of arms was approved and granted by Royal Warrant in September 1986, but its provincial shield was originally granted in 1906 by King Edward VII. Many of the design features of the original coat of arms are visible in this version, including the three gold sheaves of wheat, a royal lion, and the provincial animal, a white-tailed deer.
Each of the 2014 $300 Canadian Gold Saskatchewan Coat of Arms coins in this product listing from JM Bullion feature Brilliant Uncirculated grades. Coins in BU condition exhibit no signs of wear and tear, although you may notice breaks in the luster, spotted surfaces, and/or contact marks.
On the reverse of the coin is the coat of arms for Saskatchewan, which features a shield containing wheat in the center. The royal lion is featured on the left of the design, while the provinces prominent white-tailed deer is included on right.
The obverse side of the coin bears the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty’s effigy is included along with the engravings of “Elizabeth II” and “D.G. Regina.”
