This past year, the Tokelau territory of New Zealand released its newest coin series, which is dedicated to the thriving aquatic wildlife of Tokelau. The first of this exclusive series is the 2014 Tokelau Silver Yellowfin Tuna Coin. Each of these tuna coins has been minted from 1 troy ounce of .999 fine silver and possesses a face value of $5 NZD. The mintage of this particularly coin was limited to only 500,000, making it a rare piece among both coin collectors and marine life enthusiasts. Although ever coin is guaranteed to be in brand new uncirculated condition, minor blemishes or friction marks may be visible. These, however, will not diminish their intrinsic value.
Coin Highlights:
This special edition coin invites viewers to take a plunge into South Pacific Ocean for an intimate glimpse of the Yellowfin Tuna in its native habitat. Featured on the front of the coin is the eponymous fish as it swims past a large branch of coral, perhaps in search of some food. From its open-mouthed expression to its distinctively shaped fins and gills, collectors will be captivated by the detailed rendering of this fascinating sea creature. Equally as impressive is the accurate depiction of its aquatic environment, like the formation of the coral reef. Such realistic details make the viewer feel as though they were scuba diving right alongside this tropical fish. Encircling the underwater tableau is the proper name of the fish, “Kakahi-Yellowfin Tuna” as well the name of the territory “Tokelau.”
The reverse side of the coin pays tribute to the heritage and culture of Tokelau. In the center of the design is the portrait of Elizabeth II in honor of New Zealand’s former British rule. Beneath her appears a “Tuluma” or tackle box, which has become the national symbol of Tokelau due to its prosperous fishing industry. At the very bottom of coin is a banner with the words “Tokelau mot e Atua” printed upon it. This phrase translates into “Tokelau for God.” Also engraved on this coin is the name, “Elizabeth II” along with the coin’s vital information.

"Well I an not really a "coin" silver guy, I go for the rounds/bars and price=troy oz. But I added 4 of the GREAT WHITE 2015 ones when JM had them on sale a month ago or so, and really like them. Then I saw there was a YELLOW FIN ones for 2014. Noted they had them on JM, and price was right so said sure even with the "occasionally have minor surface imperfections or blemishes" added 4 to another order I made. I will say this of the 4 three were perfect, not a mark one. The one that had a tiny hair like mark on it was so small and minor really have to look hard to see it, I can not say they all like this, but the ones sent to me very happy. These are a MATTIE finish so marks do not really stick out on them anyway, unlike the ones that have a mirror finish."
"Somewhat disappointed because the finish is not shiny at all and has a frosty look just like the great white shark coin the second one in this collection."
"The coin is unique in that you don't see too many fish, let alone great game fish on coins. However, the coin is a bit rough and spartan compared to some of the higher quality Australian or Canadian coins (wildlife series, etc)."
