The 2014 1 oz Casa Loma Canadian Silver Coin is a new additions to the Royal Canadian Mint’s Stained Glass series. The series, which was first introduced earlier this year, is a 5 coin series that celebrates the many buildings in Canada that are adorned with artistic stained glass windows. Each of these coins contain 1 troy ounce of .9999 fine silver and have a $20 CAD legal tender value.
Each of the 2014 Casa Loma Stained Glass Coins commemorate the central disk of the McCausland stained glass dome located in Toronto’s Casa Loma. Casa Loma, which overlooks the city of Toronto, was built in 1911 by Sir Henry Pellatt. The building originally cost over $3.5 million and took nearly 3 years to complete. Today the Casa Loma is open to the public and brings in hundreds of thousands of visitors per year.
On the obverse of each of these coins is the image of Queen Elizabeth II as portrayed by Susana Blunt. In this depiction the queen is right-facing with the words “Elizabeth II Canada 2014 D.G. Regina 20 Dollars” encircling her. The reverse of the coin showcases a colored image of the central disk of Casa Loma. The image is complimented by several colors which have been applied using translucent and opaque enamel.
