Although the coins bear a face value of 1,000 Shillings, the legal-tender status of these coins is a contested issue. While the Bavarian State Mint claims to have authorization on file from a Somali official, the nation’s Central Bank chief argues otherwise. The reverse of all 2014 1 oz Somalia Silver Elephant Horse Privy Coins includes the coat of arms for Somalia. This design includes a heraldic shield with the single star of Somalia featured on it, with a leopard on either side of the shield to hold it up. Engravings include "Somali Republic," "2014" split on either side of the design field, and the face value of the coin as "100 Shillings."
On the obverse of the 2014 Somalia Silver Elephant you’ll find the image of a family herd of African elephants wandering through the African bush. The sun rises high in the sky above a family unit of three, with a calf trailing behind the female in the back of the pack.
