Each of the 2014 1 oz Rwandan Impala Silver Coins available to you today in this JM Bullion listing is in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Coins with a BU grade have no signs of wear and tear, though you may notice breaks in the luster, spotted surfaces, or contact marks from the coining process.
The Rwandan Wildlife Series of silver coins was introduced in 2008 with the mountain gorilla featured on the obverse theme. Each of the coins in the series includes a rugged outline of the African continent as the focal point of the obverse design, with a different animal featured in the lower left each year.
For 2014 BH Mayer choose the Rwandan Impala as the creature representing the nation on the coin. Impala is the local Zulu term used for the antelope or gazelle, one of the fastest land mammals on the African continent.
On the obverse face of the coin you’ll find that outline of the African continent, along with the depiction of two Rwandan Impala running across the open savannah. Engravings around the outer rim include “African Ounce,” “2014,” and “1 oz Fine Silver 999.”
The reverse of the coin features the official national seal of Rwanda. In the image, the sun can be seen rising over the top of a Zulu hut, with local crops featured on either side. Engravings on this face are in the local Zulu dialect, and translate to English identifying the Central Bank of Rwanda, as well as the national motto.
