One of the more beautiful designs in the Lunar Series II collection from the Perth Mint was its Year of the Horse release. Available in numerous precious metals and different finishes, the proof colorized version of the 2014 Year of the Horse coin is particularly stunning. All releases in the Lunar Series II program have similarities and differences. The reverse design of each coin is new each year to represent the given animal in that year’s Chinese Lunar Calendar. For 2014, it was the Year of the Horse and the Perth Mint released two different designs for its coins; one for silver and one for gold coins.
The obverse of all 2014 Australian Silver Horse coins features the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley, this depiction captures the Queen in a fourth-generation image.
On the reverse of the 2014 1 oz Proof Colorized Australian Silver Horse Coin is the image of a pair of horses standing in a field. One has its head raised as it chews on some grass while the other has its head down grazing. Both horses have been colorized to a beautiful, natural tone of brown that brings them to life on the coin.
Each of these 2014 1 oz Proof Colorized Australian Silver Horse Coins is part of a two-coin issue of Proof Colorized products for the 2014 Year of the Horse celebration. The other coin featured is a ½ oz release. Of the 10,000 coins struck in the 1 oz weight, only 9,000 are available for individual purchase.
Your purchase today comes to you in a Perth Mint display box, and includes a numbered Certificate of Authenticity to validate your purchase of Lunar Series II products from Perth Mint.
