The Silver Fiji Take is one of the most popular coins from the New Zealand Mint, and is the most visible bullion product for the nation of Fiji in the global precious metals marketplace. Introduced in 2010, the Fiji Taku is a unique coin that features the same design each year and is actually issued for two nations. Today, the 2014 1 oz New Zealand Silver $2 Fiji Taku Coin is available in perfect condition through JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
- Ships in a protective plastic slab.
- Contains 1 oz of .999 pure silver.
- Face value of $2 is fully backed by the government of Fiji.
- Graded Mint State 70 by the NGC.
Hawksbill turtles, as the animals are more widely known, are found in the warm waters of the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans. Each year the animals migrate from the shores of Fiji southward toward the northern island of New Zealand to feed and reproduce in the shallow, warm waters.
The New Zealand Mint strikes the hawksbill-themed coin for two different islands in the South Pacific. The Hawksbill Turtle silver coin is issued for Niue, while these Silver Fiji Taku coins are issued for Fiji. The use of Taku represents the Fijian dialect name for the hawksbill: Taku.
Each of the Silver Fiji Taku coins available from JM Bullion in this listing earned a perfect grade from the NGC. Mint State 70 coins are characterized by their full, original mint luster, and a lack of any detracting flaws on the surface.
The reverse of each coin combines a strong, frosted finish on the primary design, with a small sliver of deeply-mirrored finish on the left. In the matte design you’ll find the hawksbill turtle as it swims through the water. The sliver of deeply-mirrored section on the left bears the engraving “Fiji Taku.”
On the obverse is the Fijian coat of arms, which includes images representative of the nation’s seafaring history. Engravings include the nation of issue, year of issue, and the coin’s face value. This image replaced that of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse in 2013.
