The 2014 Horse Privy British Gold Britannia Coin is now available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Each of these coins have been struck by the Royal Mint in London and contain a total of 1 troy ounce of .9999 pure gold. The 2014 Gold Britannia with the Year of the Horse Privy Mark is the first British gold coin to feature the privy mark on its rim. This technique was first used one year prior on the 2013 Snake Privy Silver Britannia coin.
Coin Highlights:
The 2014 1 oz Horse Privy British Gold Britannia shares a design with the standard issue Gold Britannia Coin. This includes Ian Rank-Broadley’s portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. His portrait depicts a middle-aged queen who is right facing and wearing a tiara from her famous personal jewel collection. Below the queen’s image is the coin’s legal tender face value (100 Pounds). Directly to the queen’s left her name is inscribed. Circling around the remainder of her portrait is the Latin phrase “DG REG FID DEF.”
The coin’s reverse design depicts lady Britannia at its center. This particular image was created by Philip Nathan in 1987 and shows Britannia standing before a calm sea atop a cliff. Her robe appears to be blowing in the wind. In her right hand, she grasps a trident while her left hand holds a shield with the British flag as well as an olive branch. Circling around this scene, the name “Britannia” is inscribed along with the coin’s minting year (2014), weight (1oz), purity (.9999) and metal composition (Fine Gold).
The 2014 1 oz Horse Privy Gold Britannia is the first gold coin produced by the Royal Mint which is stamped with privy marks along the rim. Featured for the first time by the mint on the previous year’s Silver Snake Privy Britannia, this minting technique helps deter counterfeiters and also adds a greater level of aesthetic appeal to the coins. The Horse Privy mark is stamped into the coin eight separate times and it features the outline of a horse which appears to be in full stride.
