The obverse field of all 2013-W Proof American Silver Eagles displays the iconic striking Walking Liberty. This design was first created by Adolph A. Weinman to be placed on half dollars. The beautiful image shows the sun setting with Liberty walking toward it. Draped around Liberty is the American flag while she’s clutching oaken branches in her left arm.
2013-W 1 oz Proof American Eagles show John Mercanti’s heraldic eagle design on the reverse field. This image was created in 1986 by the former Chief Engraver of the United States Mint. The heraldic eagle was first introduced in 1794. However, Mercanti modernized it with the addition of the 13 five-point stars above the bald eagle’s head. Identifying marks can be seen on the bottom of the coin with information such as the weight, metal, and denomination.
All 2013-W 1 oz Proof American Silver Eagles will be shipped inside an NGC protective plastic slab. These coins are graded PF69 by the NGC meaning near-perfect condition. PF69 coins feature full, original, mint luster and no more than two minor detractions. UCAM coins are proofs that have strong, frosted design elements with deeply mirrored clear background fields.
The total mintage for the 2013 release of this popular coin program was 934,812. This mintage is a slight increase from the 2012 edition which saw 869,386 proof versions be struck. Mintage for the bullion version also increased drastically from 33.74 million to 42.675 million.
