JM Bullion ships these coins from our vault to your door in PCGS, also known as the Professional Coin Grading Service, plastic slabs. Each coin was given a perfect Proof 70 grade, meaning they are fully struck and free of visual marks. Some minor flaws are allowed, as long as they are “as minted” defects that don’t take away from the visual appeal of the coins.
The PCGS gave these coins a Deep Cameo, or DCAM designation. This means that the coins’ design fields are heavily frosted, while the backgrounds are deeply mirrored. Coins with this designation will have a stark contrast between the two surfaces.
These coins are struck using polished dies and really extreme levels of pressure to get this “Deep Cameo” finish. By using this process, the mint also ensures that the rims and designs are sharper than a regular coin.
The obverse face of each coin features the Gold Double Eagle design created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. In the design, Lady Liberty is seen striding off the face of the coin with the sun hitting her back. In one hand, she holds a flaming torch. The other hand carries an olive branch. This image was originally created in 1907 for the Gold Double Eagle Coins of that time.
Sculptor Miley Busiek’s depiction of a family of bald eagles, which was created in 1986 for use on American Gold Eagle Coins. In the image, a large male bald eagle returns to his nest carrying an olive branch. Waiting for him in the nest is his mate and hatchling.
American Gold Eagle Coins were first released in 1986 by the United States Mint. The coins are released in three versions: bullion, uncirculated, and proof. In addition, there are four different metal types that the US Mint uses for American Eagle Coins: gold, silver, platinum, and palladium. For each metal type, the mint uses different designs.
