The United States Mint set a sales record, yet again, in 2013 for its popular American Silver Eagle coin series. The bullion version of the coin has experienced unprecedented demand since 2008, and that continued in 2013 with a then-record 42.6 million coins sold. In the face of mounting demand and stretched capacity, the San Francisco Mint re-entered service in coining American Silver Eagle coins. Right now, JM Bullion has the 2013-S American Silver Eagle available in perfect condition.
Coin Highlights:
Beginning in 2011, the United States Mint launched trial strikings at the San Francisco Mint in preparation of the resumption of supplemental strikings of the coin there. The San Francisco Mint originally produced all American Silver Eagle coins, including the bullion version from 1986 to 1998.
The opening day of sales for the 2013 American Silver Eagle were so high, at 3.973 million coins, that the US Mint was forced to halt sales immediately and implement the allocation program that had been in place from 2008 to 2010. Despite the allocation program, the coins would go on to sell a total of 42.6 million in the bullion version alone.
Each 2013-S American Silver Eagle listed with JM Bullion today is a perfect specimen according to the NGC. Coins with an MS70 grade have their full, original mint luster and lack any detracting flaws on the surfaces.
On the obverse of each coin you’ll find the Walking Liberty design from Adolph A. Weinman’s 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar. On the reverse, John Mercanti’s modern depiction of the nation’s heraldic eagle.
The San Francisco Mint provides supplemental coining of American Silver Eagle coins, and has since 2011, in an effort to help the US Mint meet the immense demand for the popular coins.
