The American Silver Eagle coin is widely known around the world as the official silver bullion coin of the United States. Introduced in 1986, these coins have risen to the top of the market in the 21st century, smashing sales records and garnering global interest. Right now, the 2013-S American Silver Eagle coin is available in near-perfect condition from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
American Silver Eagle coins were originally produced at the San Francisco Mint in both bullion and proof versions. The proof coins were shifted to the Philadelphia Mint from 1994 to 2000, and the bullion coins were also struck there briefly in 1999 and 2000. All coins are now produced by the West Point Mint.
However, the immense demand for the American Silver Eagle following the Great Recession (2008-2010) overwhelmed the West Point Mint’s already full coining presses. Beginning in March 2011, the US Mint began trial production of American Silver Eagle bullion coins at the San Francisco Mint.
Later in 2011, the San Francisco Mint returned to actively striking bullion American Silver Eagle coins to supplement production of the West Point Mint and meet the immense demand for the coins. Although these 2013-S American Silver Eagle coins were produced in San Francisco, there is no “S” mint mark on these products, in keeping with other bullion coins.
Each 2013-S American Silver Eagle available today is a near-perfect coin. Products with an MS69 grade from the NGC exhibit full, original mint luster, but also include as many as two minor detracting flaws on the surfaces.
Adolph A. Weinman’s Walking Liberty design features on the obverse face of the coin, while former-Chief Engraver of the United States Mint John Mercanti’s modern heraldic eagle of the US continues on the reverse.
