The Canadian Wildlife Series of silver bullion coins is perhaps one of the single most popular coin programs from the Royal Canadian Mint outside of its annual Canadian Maple Leaf series. The six-coin series featured different animals from the Canadian wilderness, released two designs at a time over a three-year period. Today, the 2013 1 oz Canadian Silver Pronghorn Antelope Coin is available in near-perfect condition from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
- 5th coin in the Canadian Wildlife Series, and first released in 2013.
- Arrives in a plastic slab courtesy of the NGC to help protect the coin’s condition.
- Contains 1 oz of .9999 pure silver.
- Issued a face value of $5 (CAD) by the federal government in Canada.
- Graded Mint State 69 by the NGC.
- Features the image of the fastest land mammal in the Western Hemisphere; the Pronghorn Antelope.
Canadian Wildlife Series coins were originally designed by Royal Canadian Mint Assistant Engraver William Woodruff. He was responsible for the design of the first four coins in the series, covering the 2011 and 2012 releases. The Canadian Silver Pronghorn Antelope coin was the first in the series designed by famed Canadian artist Emily Damstra, who would go on to complete the series later in 2013 and contribute to other popular series from the mint.
Each 2013 1 oz Canadian Silver Pronghorn Antelope coin in this listing is in Mint State 69 condition, which is considered near-perfect by the NGC. Coins in this condition have their full, original mint luster and no more than two minor, detracting flaws.
On the reverse face is Damstra’s depiction of an antelope as it grazes on the Canadian plains. Engravings on this face include the word “Canada” along the top, and the phrase “Fine Silver 1 oz. Argent Pur” along the bottom.
The obverse features Queen Elizabeth II’s right-profile portrait. Susanna Blunt designed this depiction of Her Majesty in 2003, making it the third-generation image used on many Royal Canadian Mint coins.
The Royal Canadian Mint was founded in 1908 to process and refine gold, silver, and other precious metals discovered in the Yukon Territories at the end of the 19th century. Today it is one of the most respected facilities in the world.
