The Canadian Silver Maple Leaf was introduced in 1988 by the Royal Canadian Mint. It was the first addition of a new metal type in the Canadian Maple Leaf bullion series and is traditionally offered only as a 1 oz silver coin. The 2013 25th anniversary included these special 5 oz reverse-proof silver coins.
In the obverse design of the 2013 Reverse Proof Silver Maple Leaf, the Royal Canadian Mint honors the debut year for the Silver Maple Leaf with the inclusion of Queen Elizabeth II’s second-generation portrait. Designed by Arnold Machin, this visual was used on Canadian coins from 1965 to 1989.
