Nevada is home to the oldest known non-clonal organisms in North America: bristlecone pines. The park is home to groves of bristlecone pines, as well as a total of 11 species of conifer trees and 800 species of plants. Wheeler Peak, at a height of 13,063 feet, is the park’s most prominent resident. Great Basin National Park was established in full in 1986.
This coin was the third coin released in 2013 as part of the America the Beautiful coin series. Each year the United States Mint releases five new coins as part of the program to honor each of the nation’s states, territories, and its lone federal district. The coin program will eventually consist of 56 coins.
On the reverse side of the coin, the twisted trunk of a bristlecone pine is visible on a rocky basin. Engravings include “Nevada,” “Great Basin,” and “E Pluribus Unum.” The obverse is graced by President George Washington’s left-profile, as refined for use on coins in 1932 by John Flanagan.
Each of the coins in this product listing has been graded MS69 by the PCGS. These coins still have full, original luster visible, with a maximum of two detracting flaws, blemishes, or contact marks. These marks are all outside the primary focal areas of the coin.
