Much to the chagrin of investors and collectors, the Canadian Wildlife Series of silver bullion coins came to an end in 2013. The six-coin series featured various animals that are prominent in the Canadian wilderness, and the unique Wood Bison was chosen for the final design in the series. Today, the 2013 1 oz Canadian Silver Wood Bison Coin is available from JM Bullion in near-perfect condition.

Royal Canadian Mint Assistant Engraver William Woodruff was originally tasked with the creation of designs for the Canadian Wildlife Series of bullion coins from the mint. He created the designs used on the first four coins in the series; the 2011 Timberwolf, 2011 Grizzly Bear, 2012 Cougar, and 2012 Moose.
In 2013, famed Canadian artist Emily Damstra was commissioned to create the designs used on the final two coins in the series. Her first piece appeared on the 2013 Pronghorn Antelope, and the 2013 1 oz Canadian Silver Wood Bison was her final creation for the series.
The 2013 1 oz Canadian Silver Wood Bison Coins in this JM Bullion listing are in near-perfect MS69 condition. According to the NGC, coins with this grade have their full, original mint luster, and a maximum of two minor detracting flaws.
On the reverse is the image of a Wood Bison as it gallops through a shallow riverbed. The Wood Bison is a smaller, though still very large, subspecies of the North American Bison, and is found only in Canada.
The obverse features the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty’s effigy was created by Susanna Blunt, and is featured along with engravings that read “Elizabeth II,” “2013,” and “5 Dollars.”
The Royal Canadian Mint is one of the most respected facilities in the world. Its accomplishments include creating the first .99999 pure silver products and developing Olympic gold medals for use in the 2010 Winter Olympics held in Vancouver.
