In the obverse design of 2013-W Burnished American Gold Eagles, you’ll find Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ depiction of Lady Liberty. Inspired by his 1907 design, Liberty is shown in front-facing relief as she walks toward the viewer with a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. A ring of stars surrounds the field and sun rays emerge on the horizon.
For the reverse field of 2013-W 1 oz Burnished Gold Eagle Coins, the mint features Miley Busiek’s design of American bald eagles from 1986. The original design in this series, this visual showcases a male eagle soaring over the nest as a female eagle guards a hatchling in the nest.
