Australian Lunar Series coins are the most popular products of their genre in the precious metals marketplace. While other mints have followed suit, investors and collectors still look to the Perth Mint coins as the gold standard in the industry. The 2013 1 oz Australian Silver Snake coin in this listing has a unique gilded finish. The Perth Mint reserves a select few of its Australian Silver Lunar Series II coins each year for a gilded finish, which includes a 24-karat gold layering applied to the primary design, in this case the Year of the Snake image on the reverse.
On the reverse face of the coin you’ll find the gilded image of a snake wrapped around a tree branch. Engravings include the Chinese symbol for snake, and the phrase “Year of the Snake.” The obverse bears the image of Queen Elizabeth II of England. Her Majesty’s effigy was created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley, and is surrounded by engravings that read “Elizabeth II,” “Australia,” “1 oz 999 Silver,” “2013,” and “1 Dollar.”
The Perth Mint is Australia’s oldest operating facility. Though not affiliated with the Royal Australian Mint, all of its currency is considered legal tender under the Currency Act of 1965.
