Armenian Silver Noah’s Ark coins provide a visual depiction of the narrative of the flood as told in the book of Genesis from the Christian bible. In the story, God sends a massive flood to cleanse the Earth of mankind’s sins. The pious Noah, his family, and two of each animals species are the only ones spared God’s wrath.
On the reverse side of each coin is the image of Noah’s Ark as it floats atop the flood waters. In the background, the sun is visible peeking over the top of Mount Ararat, where the ark would eventually come to rest. In the foreground, a dove is visible flying into the image with an olive branch in its beak.
The obverse side of the coin bears the coat of arms for the Republic of Armenia. The coin’s weight, metal content, purity, and face value are engraved on this side, along with the phrase “Republic of Armenia.” The full name of the nation and the phrase “Noah’s Ark” are engraved on the coin’s reverse and obverse sides, respectively, in both English and Armenian.
Germany’s Geiger Edelmetalle Mint was established in the nation’s Saxony region in 1218. One of the five state-owned mints in Germany, it has a rich history of producing coins, medals, and other precious metal products in one of the world’s most historic silver mining regions.
