We are pleased to offer this 2013 1.5 oz Canadian Silver Polar Bear coin from the Royal Canadian Mint. This limited issue bullion coin was the first “thick”, oversized bullion coin produced by the RCM, and has become a collectors’ item over the years. Please note that the RCM struggled with “milk spotting” during this period, and as such, we cannot guarantee these coins will be immune from the milk spotting issue.
The 2013 1.5 oz Polar Bear features .9999 fine silver purity, as well as an $8 CAD face value. The coin features the iconic polar bear striding across the snow, with the obverse featuring the classic Queen Elizabeth II portrait.

Polar bears are one of the few creatures capable of surviving the harsh conditions of the Arctic. Surviving on fat stores in its body and hunting seals for food, the polar bear scours the frozen tundra with little regard for the biting cold of the far north. Only 20,000 polar bears are believed to exist in the wild, and Canada is home to the largest population in the world.
On the reverse side of each coin is the image of a polar bear as its strides across a barren, frozen landscape. The image is encircled by the engravings of “Canada” and the coin’s weight, purity, and metal content.
The obverse side of the 2013 1.5 oz. Canadian Silver Polar Bear has Susanna Blunt’s depiction of Queen Elizabeth II. The third iteration of her right-profile portrait, updated by Blunt in 2003, Her Majesty’s image is surrounded by engravings of “Elizabeth II,” “8 Dollars,” and “2013.”
The Royal Canadian Mint is one of the finest facilities in the world. Founded in 1908 to refine precious metals found in the Yukon Territories, the RCM operates two state-of-the-art facilities in Winnipeg and Ottawa today.

“Nice coin. I prefer the more detailed 1.25 Bison coins, but this is very nice.”
