The Lunar Series II collection of silver and gold coins for sale from the Perth Mint amplified the presence of lunar-themed coins at the mint. Lunar Series I ran from 1996 to 2007, but Lunar Series II expanded the offerings in the collection and skyrocketed the collections to the forefront of many numismatists’ mind. Right now, 2013 1/4 oz Australian Gold Lunar Snake Coins are available to purchase online from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
Each of the 2013 1/4 oz Australian Gold Lunar Snake Coins in this product listing are available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition with a protective plastic capsule to house the coin. The Perth Mint announced an unlimited mintage for the 1/4 oz Australian Gold Lunar Snake, with an eventual total of 16,159 gold coins selling during its availability.
The Perth Mint offered a total of nine coins in the Australian Gold Lunar Snake released in 2013. The only coin to sell out its allotment was the 1 oz gold coin which sold its entire mintage of 30,000 coins. The 10 Kilogram coin sold the fewest with just 11 of its permissible 100 coins produced and sold. The 1/4 oz gold coin was the third best-selling coin in the release behind the 1 oz coin and the 1/10 oz coin.
On the obverse of the 2013 1/4 oz Australian Gold Lunar Snake Coin is a depiction of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is shown here in right-profile relief with the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara on her head. This effigy was created for the Royal Mint of England in 1998 and featured on Australian denominations from 1999 to 2018, with the Lunar Series II program using it through 2019.
The reverse side of 2013 1/4 oz Australian Gold Lunar Snake Coins includes a snake slithering in the grass near a set of bamboo stalks. This field of the coin includes an inscription identifying the animal year represented and the Chinese symbol for the snake. There is also a “P” mintmark from the Perth Mint.
