Introduced in 1979, the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coin is one of the oldest programs in the modern bullion market. The only series older than the Gold Maple Leaf is the South African Krugerrand. Starting in the 1980s, the Royal Canadian Mint expanded the Gold Maple Leaf beyond its original 1 oz option to include various fractional-ounce coins. Today, 2013 1/2 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coins are available to you online at JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coins were introduced in 1979 with only a 1 oz gold option. The first expansion of the series came in November 1982 with the introduction of two fractional-ounce gold coins. These 1/2 oz Gold Maple Leafs were not made available until 1986, and were eventually followed by 1/20 oz and 1 Gram versions of the coin.
All of these 2013 1/2 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coins are available to you with individual protective flips. The 1/2 oz Gold Maple Leaf is the largest of the fractional-ounce coins, but was the third fractional-ounce coin introduced behind the 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz options.
On the obverse of 2013 Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coins, you will find the right-profile effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is shown here in right-profile relief without a crown on her head. This 2003 design from Susanna Blunt is the only portrait during the Queen’s reign to lack a crown in the design.
The reverse side of the 2013 1/2 oz Gold Maple Leaf features the image of a sugar maple leaf. Designed for the series in 1979 by Walter Ott, this image has proliferated across all gold, silver, platinum, and palladium versions of the Canadian Maple Leaf bullion coin series.
