The fourth coin in the Canadian Wildlife Series proved a turning point in the design of the popular silver bullion coins. This coin would be the last in the series designed by the Royal Canadian Mint Assistant Engraver William Woodruff, with Canadian artist Emily Damstra taking over for the final year. Right now, the 2012 1 oz Canadian Silver Moose is available in near-perfect condition from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
Canadian Wildlife Series coins were introduced in 2011 for the first time. The six-coin series featured two new designs released each year over the course of three years. The animals chosen to represent the Canadian wilderness included the timberwolf and grizzly bear in 2011, the cougar and moose in 2012, and the pronghorn antelope and wood bison in 2013.
Each 2012 1 oz Canadian Silver Moose Coin in this product listing earned a near-perfect grade from the NGC. MS69 coins have their full, original mint luster, and no more than two minor detracting flaws on the surface.
On the reverse side of the coin is the image of a moose in the wilderness as created by Woodruff. Engravings on this side include “Canada,” “9999,” and the phrase “Fine Silver 1 oz. Argent Pur.”
The obverse face of the coin bears the image of Queen Elizabeth II. The longest reigning monarch in British history was captured in right-profile relief by Susanna Blunt in 2003, and is featured on the obverse of all Canadian coinage.
The Royal Canadian Mint was founded in 1908. Originally producing all of its currency at the Ottawa facility in the federal capital, a secondary mint was opened in Winnipeg in the 1980s to boost capacity in the RCM system.
