There were good signs and bad for the Proof American Gold Eagle in 2011. As usual, the United States Mint established individual mintage caps for each of the four weights and a separate cap on the number of 4-Coin Proof Gold Eagle Sets. The total mintage number for the year reflects sales of both versions. The 2011 1/4 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coin is currently available to you for purchase online from JM Bullion in perfect condition.
Coin Highlights:
Overall sales of the Proof American Gold Eagles were down in 2011 from the 2010 release due to a variety of factors. Demand for the 2010 coins was bolstered by the return of the Proof American Gold Eagles after a one-year hiatus. Now that the US Mint was able to meet the demand for both bullion and proof versions, there was no need for a halt. The US Mint also neglected to produce any sort of 25th-anniversary release of the American Gold Eagles in 2011.
The US Mint set an individual mintage cap on its 2011 1/4 oz Proof Gold Eagles of 16,000 coins, with an additional 40,000 coins available in the 4-Coin Proof Gold Eagle Set. While the individually allotted 16,000 coins sold out eventually, those 1/4 oz coins included in the Proof Set remained available by year’s end as the set did not experience a sellout.
On the obverse of all Proof American Gold Eagles is the image of Lady Liberty created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. This design launched a new wave of American coin designs in the early 20th century and featured on the $20 Gold Double Eagle from 1907 to 1933.
The reverse face of 2011 1/4 oz Proof American Gold Eagles bears the design of American bald eagles. The design used here is exclusive to the Gold Eagle Series and includes a male eagle flying over the nest as a female eagle in the nest guards a hatchling with her wing.
These 2011 1/4 oz Proof American Gold Eagles are available to you in perfect condition. PF70 coins have full, original mint luster and no detracting flaws. The UCAM label means the designs are strong and frosted, while the background field is deeply-mirrored and clear.
