The 2011-W First Spouse Lucretia Garfield Gold Coin’s obverse showcases a portrait of the former First Lady. Due to James Garfield’s relatively short tenure as President of the United States of America, Lucretia Garfield also had one of the briefer stints as First Lady, serving from March to September 1881.
Flipping the 2011-W 1/2 oz Lucretia Garfield Gold Coin reveals a charming image of the former First Lady seated at an easel, paying tribute to her passion for the arts. Upon settling in Washington D.C., the Garfields constructed an expansive residence, complete with a dedicated room where Lucretia could freely pursue her love for painting.
