On the hallowed grounds of Gettysburg, thousands of American soldiers lost their lives in a 3-day battle, and President Abraham Lincoln delivered his groundbreaking Gettysburg Address. A more peaceful vision of Gettysburg is featured on the reverse of the 2011 5 oz ATB Gettysburg Silver Coin, available now through JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
When the Union Army and the Confederate Army met on the battlefields of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, few could imagine the carnage that would ensue. In 3-days of hand-to-hand battle, nearly 8,000 Americans perished and another 18,000 were wounded, captured, or listed as missing.
Gettysburg National Military Park is featured on the reverse side of the first coin released in 2011 in the America the Beautiful series. A new set of five coins are released each year in the series, which is scheduled to run through 2021. In the end, all 50 states, the nation’s five territories, and the federal district will be represented on a coin.
The reverse side of the coin features the statue of a Civil War soldier standing in the square. In the background, a local building and the rolling hills of Gettysburg are featured. Engravings read “Pennsylvania,” “Gettysburg,” and “E Pluribus Unum.” On the obverse is the image of President George Washington. Designed by John Flanagan in 1932, based upon a William Cousins bust from 1786, the image is featured on the obverse of all US circulation quarters.
Each coin available in this product listing was struck by the United States Mint, and is available with an MS69 grade. This grade means the coin still has its full, original luster, and no more than two blemishes, contact marks, or detracting flaws. These bullion coins feature a deeply-mirrored, proof-like finish.
