Oklahoma is known for wide-open ranges and arid climates, but the Chickasaw National Recreational Area near Oklahoma City is an exemption to this view of the state. With picnic spaces, hiking trails, and lush forests along Travertine Creek, the area is a natural wonder that offers a pure outdoor play space.
Each of the 2011 5 oz ATB Chickasaw Silver coins in this product listing earned a Mint State 69 grade from the NGC. Coins with an MS69 grade exhibit full, original mint luster, but also feature two minor detracting flaws. These flaws are limited to minuscule contact marks or other minor blemishes, and found only outside the primary focal areas of the coin.
America the Beautiful is a 56-coin series based upon the circulation state quarters program that ran from 1999 to 2008. ATB Silver coins commemorate the nation’s system of national parks, forests, protected lands, and historic monuments.
On the reverse is a design honoring Chickasaw National Recreational Area, and includes engravings identifying the state, park, and year of issue on the coin. The obverse side of the coin features the left-profile portrait of President George Washington. This design is common to all coins in the series and reflects the 1932 portrait from John Flanagan.
