Following the success of the Lunar Series I program, Perth Mint immediately embarked on a second collection of lunar-themed coin designs in 2008. While the Lunar Series I collection was offset in its gold and silver offerings, the Lunar Series II program featured gold and silver releases alongside one another throughout. Now, 2011 2 oz Australian Silver Lunar Rabbit Coins are available for purchase online at JM Bullion.

The Lunar Series I program debuted in 1996, but only offered gold coins at first. Silver coins were introduced in the series until 1999. As such, Lunar Series I gold was available in-line with the Zodiac from 1996 to 2007. However, Lunar Series I silver was issued out of line with the Zodiac from 1999 to 2010.
In the midst of this, the Lunar Series II program debuted with its own, fresh designs in 2008. Gold and silver coins were offered together from the outset in Lunar Series II. This included a fresh design for the Year of the Rabbit in 2011.
For the obverse design of 2011 2 oz Silver Lunar Rabbits, the mint features Ian Rank-Broadley’s effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen is shown here in right-profile relief wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara.
In the reverse design element of the 2011 Australian Silver Lunar Rabbit, Perth Mint showcases a depiction of two rabbits. An adult rabbit is shown with its young bunny nearby. In Chinese culture, the rabbit is associated with good luck, peace, and longevity. It is considered a symbol of good fortune.
These 2011 2 oz Australian Silver Lunar Rabbit Coins are available in protective capsules. Demand for silver continued to surge in 2011, with the 2 oz Silver Rabbit experiencing a jump in mintage from 63,005 coins in 2010 to 99,494 in 2011. This marked nearly a 50% increase from the prior year and an increase of five times the mintage from two years earlier in 2009.
